Sant Joan de Binissaida is definitively focused on ecology and respect for the environment. The following stand out among the various initiatives:
- The hotel has a photovoltaic energy facility that produces electric power;
- Hot water for rooms in the former stable-barn is produced by means of a solar power installation;
- The hotel is provided with containers for recycling paper, plastic and glass, respectively, thus encouraging reuse of materials and less waste;
- The lights indicating outdoor pathways are powered by solar energy;
- The new bathrooms are equipped with a system to control and save water;
- Six hectares have been reforested (the closest to the sea) with pines and wild olives, following guidelines of the European Union reforestation programme;
- All “dry stone” walls have been restored according to the original construction methods;
- In 2000 the waterwheel was renovated after studying the ethnological elements of its original construction. It now contains water and works as it did in the old days. The old bread oven was likewise rebuilt and can nowadays be used;
- All the garden, agricultural and forest areas are superbly maintained, offering an incomparable natural beauty.
